Multimodal Strategy

  • Prince George offers access to North America Express Rail Systems.

  • Prince George is only 8 hours via road from the Port of Prince Rupert.

  • The Port of Prince Rupert is accessible year round as it remains ice free and is the deepest harbour in North America.

Rail Connections

As the only railroad in North America to cross the continent both east-west and north-south, access to CN Rail's high capacity northern mainline and the Trans-Canada Yellowhead Highway provide land connections to the rest of North America via the lowest grades through the Rocky Mountains.

CNPort facilities feed directly into the Northwest Transportation Corridor, a modern road and rail network engineered and built to carry massive volumes, making it poised for substantial growth and economic expansion. CN's outstanding on-time delivery record and Prince Rupert's throughput capabilities mean this dedicated partnership can give customers unprecedented single-line connections to major distribution centers across Canada, the United States, and into Mexico.

Inland Port (Intermodal)

Port of Prince Rupert

Port of Prince RupertStrategically located at the North American entry point of the North West Transportation Corridor, the Port of Prince Rupert links the fast-growing Asian markets to one of the world's largest industrial and consumer powerhouses. With modern terminals and the availability of vast industrial development property, uncongested facilities provide cost-saving opportunities for shippers and producers. Superior road and rail connections mean efficient access to the entire North American continent. With the deepest harbour in North America and year-round ice-free access, the Port of Prince Rupert is set for continuous activity catering to even the largest of vessels. Along the Mid-West Express, the Port of Prince Rupert is the essential link to the New World Economy.

Port of Prince RupertContainerization Opportunities

Containerization has taken off as a significant method of shipment, and Prince Rupert, in partnership with CN Rail and Maher Terminals, is poised to take advantage of this trend. Fairview Terminal is a highly efficient multi-use marine that has handled lumber, wood pulp, panelboard, ore concentrates, steel pipe and plate, project cargoes, and slack wax. It's conversion to a container terminal ensures that Prince Rupert remains on the leading edge of shipping technology.

Prince Rupert has industrially zoned land primed for development. Potential projects will find properties suitable to liquid bulk terminals, shipyard and marine activities, container transfer terminals, and barge and heavy lift terminals.
